Talking Filmain is a Pakistan based independent motion picture house managed and owned by directors, producers and editors Nasir Khan, Adil Sher and Rizwan Saeed. The three entrepreneurs came together officially under the umbrella of Talking Filmain in 2001, having come from a background of theatre direction and production and have since been working tirelessly to bring quality programmes, exciting casts and versatile story lines to international and local screens.
The vision and overall goal behind each sitcom, series, video and film coming out of the motion picture house is to help revitalise the television and screen format culture in Pakistan and to promote the Pakistani culture and image to diverse audiences. In the international arena, their latest documentary 'Made in Pakistan', presented a holistic image of Pakistan by representing a window into Pakistan's educated and younger classes. In addition to its nationwide screening in Pakistan, their documentary was screened at BAFTA in the UK and at various film festivals across the globe. The New York Times dubbed it as "...a deft and transparently honest attempt to provide a partly layered portrait of a many-layered society" and The Examiner confirms "... a fascinating and ultimately successful effort to challenge Western stereotypes."
In addition to Made in Pakistan, the feature film 'Kashf', co-produced by Talking Filmain, was previewed at the Berlin and Cannes film festivals and Rizwan Saeed was nominated as Best Editor for his work on the film at the Santa Fe Film Festival. Their short film, 'Profile', which was produced and directed by the three filmmakers in Canada, was accepted to the Philadelphia, Vancouver and Kara film festivals among others. They also shot 'Muslim Gear', a short documentary on Muslim fashion in the West. This film was produced for CBC - Zed Canada. In recognition of their pioneering work and enterprise, the trio received a grant from the National Film Board in Canada to direct and produce a short film by the name of 'Paid in Full'.
The filmmakers have also received considerable recognition within Pakistan as a professional and well respected production house. In 2010, the trio received the coveted 'Best Drama Serial - Private Production' award for their serial 'Na Jaane Kyun' at the prestigious 15th Annual Awards Ceremony of Pakistan Television. Talking Filmain's tele film, '14 Days' was also selected for the prestigious Pakistani Television channel, Hum TV's tele film festival 2008 and was nominated in 6 categories, winning 4.
In addition to their work within the realms of entertainment industry, the motion-picture house also works across a diverse repertoire of corporate projects, including documentaries, short films, visual documentation and advertisements. Their work has been recognized and well received within the industry for the high quality of production. The trio has worked with USAID, Tetrapak and Wateen among other professional entities.
On a more personal note, Adil, Nasir and Rizwan all grew up in Lahore and continue to live in Pakistan's cultural capital. They are childhood friends and have always shared a passion for cinema, discussing and dissecting movies and dreaming about making them one day. Their initiation into the field was through acting and drama in the mid 90's, during the amateur theatre surge in Lahore. It was at this time that they got together informally, for their first few stage and drama productions.
